Next week, McGuffey Healthcare will unite with organizations all over the nation in honoring National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW). The observance, which runs from May 12 to 18, recognizes the role of skilled nursing care centers such as McGuffey Healthcare in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The theme for this year’s national observance, “Live Soulfully,” celebrates skilled nursing centers, their residents and staff, by showcasing how they achieve happy minds and healthy souls. No matter the activity, living soulfully means finding one’s own happiness.

Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, NSNCW, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, provides an opportunity for residents and their loved ones, staff, volunteers and surrounding communities to acknowledge the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Skilled nursing care centers across the nation support their residents by helping them find happiness and improve their quality of life. Nursing care centers are an important part of their communities because they ensure that seniors and disabled people still have a means for engaging with society through their individual passions. Whether it’s through their musical talents, arts and crafts or gardening, nursing center residents add richness to the communities around them. These centers also provide a home away from home for residents, where they can get their medical and emotional needs met in a caring environment.

McGuffey Healthcare will kick off NSNCW with a special tea for Mother’s Day Sunday. Flowers will be given to the youngest and most elder mother as well as the mother with the most grandchildren. Monday, we will celebrate the musical magic of Motown with a DJ playing tunes and pantomime performances. Tuesday is Carnival Day and will feature clowns, a dunking booth, games and carnival snacks. Wednesday, we will celebrate superheroes with dress-up activities, a mock superhero battle, a photo booth and superhero trivia. Thursday will be a blast from the past as we remember the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Residents from each hall are encouraged to dress up according to a decade. Later, a decade fashion show will be held. Our week concludes with Outback Day on Friday. Residents have the opportunity to dress in animal print and spend some time with animals in our courtyard.

McGuffey Healthcare is proud to be a home to a diverse group of residents who have a variety of interests. To serve them and their loved ones is a privilege that we hold dear. At this time of celebration, we would also like to acknowledge how fortunate we are to have a team of professionals that is committed to improving the quality of life for our residents. Our staff is such an important part of the work we do here and we are deeply appreciative of everything they do to help McGuffey Healthcare provide the best service possible. We wish all the skilled nursing care centers across the nation a very happy National Skilled Nursing Care Week!
